Memphigs City - This series of buildings were made to expand on the figures and give them a world to inhabit. These pieces were presented in two different settings; a sandbox and a stairway.
The sandbox installation emphasizes the aspect of play and creation that comes from early childhood toys like sandboxes and doll-houses.
The Stairway installation presented the city as a little world tucked away. I liked to think of it as a hidden world functioning separately from ours. With its own people with their own concerns and pass-times. The idea for placing the buildings in a stairway was inspired by the piece in the old Whitney building stairway.
